The launch of the Simplified ESG Disclosure Guide (SEDG) in October 2023 makes Malaysia the first country globally to provide SMEs within global supply chains with a streamlined and standardised set of guidelines for ESG disclosures. The Simplified ESG Disclosure Guide (SEDG) for SMEs in Supply Chains was developed by Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM), an affiliate of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC).
The MPMA Secretariat, comprised of (from left) Ms. Malathy, Ms. Whendi, Ms. Crystal, Ms. Hanis, and Mr. Chan, visited the Capital Market Malaysia team, Mr. Fazdriq and Ms. Mishall, to understand the recently launched SEDG and their new programme on SEDG Early Adopter. The SEDG consolidates and simplifies the many complex global and local ESG-related frameworks to improve the availability of ESG data and information by SMEs. It comprises 35 priority disclosures that are aligned with local and global sustainability guidelines, including the Bursa Malaysia Sustainability Reporting Guide, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), and Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), among others. This will enable SMEs to respond to disclosure requests from multiple stakeholders, including customers, investors, banks, and regulators.
MPMA is looking forward to seeing how this ESG disclosure guide can help members in the plastics industry champion ESG initiatives and prepare sustainability reports in the future.
