Recent Cornell University’s study had sparked heightened concerns on microplastics, with the study claiming that Malaysians ingest the most microplastics in the world through our seafood intake. More local studies to identify exact sources of microplastics in Malaysia are needed for the country to drive solutions to the issue, such as effective wastewater treatment system, which can remove 90% of microfibres, the most commonly found microplastics, from the environment.
